Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois
My husband and I had our lease terminated by the landlord because of fire damage to the building. This is in accoradance with our lease. Can I have the insurance company that covers the property pay the deposit on a new lease?

Realistically? Probably not. If the landlord terminated the lease the landlord owes you the security deposit directly. If the new security deposit is more this might be a claim against your renter's policy. But without seeing either policy it's impossible to be 100% sure. So on the off chance ... You might want to try putting a claim in on the landlord's policy and see if anything happens.
