Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois

My husband and myself are in need of therapy animals for depression, what I'm wanting to know is if there is a land/lord tenant law that states that the landlord has to let us have small animal/animals for our psychiatric problem even if he wants no animals in the house, and can he charge us a deposit?

"Maybe." There are federal civil rights laws for certain kinds of housing (ADA, FHAA...), but the animal also has to be a "service" animal under Illinois law. And yes if pets are not currently allowed under your lease, you'd have to work with the landlord. Since this is a matter of personal medical health, it sounds important enough for you to want to consult an attorney who can elicit all the facts, look at your lease, and help you navigate through the situation without additional stress..
