Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois

Landlord / Tenant Laws

I recently moved from IL to WI because of a new job. I notified my old management company (in Chicago) that I would be moving, and I found a new tenant to move into the apartment. On September 5th, he signed a Lease Extension Agreement. However, he is unable to move into the apartment until September 29th. My management company told me that I am responsible for the rent from September 1st through September 29th, and that the new tenant will begin paying when he moves into the apartment. I would assume that he would be responsible for the lease on September 5th, when the lease was signed. Can you please tell me if I should be paying the rent from September 1st through the 29th?

I'd have to see the lease...it controls. Is the new tenant your subleasee or does he have his own lease with the landlord? If it's a sublease you're still responsible. If the lease is directly with the landlord it would depend when that lease starts. Also, when does your lease end?
