Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois

the lease/my deposit

When is a lease considered a legal contract? I gave a deposit, signed the lease, but it doesn't go into affect until June 1st. I lost my job and I need out of the lease, and my deposit back...is that possible?

Re: the lease/my deposit

That is what the deposit is for - to allow the landlord a break for holding the apartment for you - you should notify him immediately that you want out of the lease based on your circumstances. He will likely keep the deposit - however, maybe you'll get lucky and he'll be a nice guy. A lease is a legal contract from the moment both parties sign it.
