Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois

Leaving a condo after being sold at auction

I was renting a condo paying month to month with no lease agreement. Unknown to me, the condo was foreclosed and sold at auction. The person who bought the condo now wants me out. I am willing to leave, but I would like to know if I have an amount of time legally to stay until I find another place.

Re: Leaving a condo after being sold at auction

By law the new owner has to give you a 30 day notice of termination of tenancy. The new owner cannot just put you out. I suggests that you continue to offer rent to the new owner. If the new owner attempts to move you out physically, contact the police immediately. That is against the law. Will be happy to discuss this further and in more detail.
