Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois

Liability for apartment after moving out

I am in a lease with a roommate, for many reasons (one of which being she wont put the heat on in the winter as to save money) I am moving out. I understand I am legally bound to pay my share of the rent until the lease is up. My question is, if I move out, turn in my keys to the leasing company and pay my rent directly to them, can I be excused from being liable for the apartment if my roommate does not care for it after I leave? I believe if she is the only one living there she should be responsible for any damages she creates. Thank you.

If you are on the lease, you are responsible.
