Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois
I live in a 3 apartment house. When I first signed lease I had the electric bill in my name and the other tenets split the bill with me. The house was sold and with it a new landlord, and the other two tenets left and months later new ones signed leases where the landlord says utilities are included. They won't help split the bill because they say free utilities are part of their lease. My question is can the landlord legally make one tenet pay for all the utilities? What actions can I take to correct this or take against the landlord?

Have an attorney review your lease first; there's no way of telling what the situation is based on your information and for all you know the landlord may not be aware of it. Then it sounds like the landlord needs to be approached. It may be something the local building department needs to be involved with depending on local codes.
