Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois
I live in Cook County in the state of Illinois. My landlord and I just renewed our lease (verbally) in May 2015 for another year (until May 2016). This is our 3rd year living in his condo. I am just finding out that the condo is underforeclosure foreclosure and it was filed a month before we moved in (April 2013). This whole time, we paid our rent on time & I have all the proof for it. Sadly, we don't have a written lease. Can he or the bank tell us to leave at anytime they decide or what is the procedure? We have 2 small children & need to be prepared. Thank you!

If a buyer in the foreclosure wants to move in you'd have 90 days to move whether there was a lease or not. An investor buyer may want a good-paying tenant however, and then you might get a decent lease. If you live in Chicago, you may have the right to move, but that's your choice.
