Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois
I had a past landlord in Chicago, IL serve me with eviction papers by the county sheriff. I have documented lots of issues with retaliatory behavior from this landlord that includes this eviction notice. However, at the time I was served these papers, I had already given him notice that I was leaving the apartment. I had fallen ill and was going to be immediately hospitalized right after I moved. I asked for a 3 week extension beyond the originally stated move out date due to my illness which made it difficult to get everything cleaned out and ready in time. The landlord responded to that request by serving me the eviction papers. The court date was around 6-8 weeks away and I was already leaving within 3 weeks. I simply went forward with my move out as planned and sent the court a letter explaining this. My question is, even though we never went to court, will this eviction notice show up on an eviction search when I am looking for new apartments?

Yes. If you've moved out then eviction appears no longer needed. The case should be dismissed. Have an attorney arrange that for you in a way that minimizes future problems.
