Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois
My question surrounds lease agreements.
My wife entered into a property lease in Evanston,IL:
She signed the lease, I never saw it or signed it, and she failed to make the November payment.
I recently discovered my name was included on an eviction notice.
Am I liable for this lease?

Can't tell for sure without more facts, but it is possible they figure since she's married you might be living there and in order to evict EVERYONE who MIGHT be living there they want to get a judgment of possession against you too. If you benefit from the lease, like you live there even if you are not on the lease, you CAN be held liable if a court considers the rent a necessary family expense that you benefit from.
