Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois
I haven't been able to reach my landlord since the beginning of the month to pay the rent. I just signed the lease and so far I've just paid the security deposit, move in fee and 1/2 month for the first 15 days I've lived here. Is there any way I can protect myself if by any chance he tries to charge me late fees??

Your lease "should" tell you where to send the rent. If you can't understand it, you will need to have an attorney look at it. Worst case is that you can arrange with the attorney to put the money up with the attorney who can then contact the landlord and who may try to contact the landlord directly to figure this out. But that may not prevent the late charge if the landlord believes you should have known what to do.
