Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois
I recently moved to my new home and this guy I've been dating for awhile have been mentally, emotionally, and physically abusive. He knows where my children and I stay. I going to make an police report. I don't feel comfortable living at my home. If it's possible, can I break my lease and move?

You can do anything you want, but without the landlord's consent and agreement of some kind, generally no. But depending where you live and what your lease says, you may be able to sublet for the balance of your term. You may ultimately need your landlord's help, but take your lease to an attorney to review first to see what it says - you may have options.
