Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois
If I have rented an apartment with someone with a year lease and they want me to move before the lease is up do I have to move or can I stay until the lease is up?

Without seeing the lease it is impossible to say. However, generally tenants are allowed to stay for the full term of their lease absent any provision that allows for early termination.
I agree w/ Attorney Brabender but who is asking you to leave? The landlord, or your co-renter? It makes a huge difference. If it is your co-renter, then unless the lease or your landlord releases you, you most likely are just as liable on the lease as your co-renter and whether your co-renter will "indemnify you" in case things go wrong can't be assured. If your landlord wants you out, then it depends on whether your co-renter will be stuck as liable on all the rent, or just his or her share of it. Have the lease reviewed and talk about the facts with an attorney.
