Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois
I have been renting a room in my house to a person for about five months now. After he moved in his girlfriend stated living here with him. So I upped the rent a hundred dollars after she has been staying her for a month and a half of him denying that she was living her. About a week ago he beat her up and got put into jail and spent about a week in jail then the charges got dropped and he is back her. I don't feel comfortable letting an abusive person live with me anymore. We original had a verbal agreement that he had to prepay everything each month to stay here. Now he has lost his job and can't pay on top of the abuse. In il I was told you have to give a 30 day eviction notice. With only a verbal agreement and no lease or contract or even proof of payments do I have to give him thirty days when it is only a roommate situation and not a property rental.
