Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois
I am a student in illinois the lease i signs was with a bank and nowhere on the lease says it is transferable when the property is sold is the lease void. Also The lease i signed says no pet however the landlord gave my roommate permission to have a pet with out my consent. I am allergic to dogs

1. Leases are not "transferable" - if the lease says it terminates on sale of the property, that's the case. Otherwise leases generally continue on through their stated term unless the buyer is buying the property out of foreclosure and wants to move in -- you are entitled to notice of the sale and move-out date, and can even withhold the last month's rent in case the landlord doesn't refund your security deposit. The notice would give you 90 days to move.
2. Dog? Roommate? Whose lease is this? Did both of you sign it? If only you did and the roommate is just a friend, you can tell the roommate to get rid of the dog. If both of you signed it, it is possible the landlord can give consent to either of you and it will be something both of you have to live with. But did you talk to the landlord about your allergy? Because you may have the ability to undo the consent.
