Illinois normally requires you give a residential tenant a notice that first gives the tenant a chance to pay the rent. If the tenant doesn't, then you have to file a lawsuit, and the notice is critical. You can file just to get the tenant out or for that and the rent. It's usually in a special court and is a quicker kind of lawsuit to be heard. But there are a lot of technical hoops and if you haven't done this before you should seriously consider an attorney helping you. Then again you might get lucky if you give the notice and the tenant moves out voluntarily. There are so many things that could happen....
