Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois
I was a tenat who resided in a unit for 5 years. The landlord went to court for possesion of his unit. I went to the Illinois Tenant Union for help. They assisted me and I didn't have to move for 90 days without paying any rent. The case was settled and I didnot owe any money damages. I was to vacate the unit. I am having a hard time renting a new unit because everyone that calls him gets a negative response. Several prospective landlords were told that I am constantly late with my rent (I have been in this same unit for over 5 years) she was give a notice to leave my unit and she is still on my property. Don't rent to her because its' nothing but a heartache. Is there anything I can do to stop this from happening?

You, or you could have an attorney, or maybe somebody from the Tenant Union, contact the landlord to tell him how counter-productive it is since if you can't move it will just make more difficulties for both him and you. And maybe he doesn't know what to say, so an attorney can help script something so he doesn't feel he's lying that could get himself in trouble. There's always a way to say something so there can be a good outcome for both of you in a difficult situation. Or if he's just being difficult, an attorney or Tenant Union representative can say lots of things......
