unpaid roommate bills
can I sue a former roommate for her share of utility bills not paid when she moved out?

Hello. Yes, you can file a lawsuit against your
former roommate, but the issue is whether you
can establish that you and your roommate had an
agreement to share the expenses!? If there is nothing in writing, it will be up to the judge
or jury to determine who is telling the truth.
Before filing suit, consult a lawyer. In
Illinois courts a person can be sanctioned or
(fined) for filing a lawsuit that the court
determines has no merit or is said to be of
a frivilous nature.
