Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois
can my wages be garnished more that the judgemenet amount?
1 Answer from Attorneys
Yes. If you mean a judgment was entered for, say, $1000.00, it also probably says "plus interests, costs and attorney fees" that can be tacked on. And each garnishment summons and procedure costs more time and money and court costs and attorney fees and they get tacked on too. It's worse that trying to pay off a credit card balance with the minimum monthly amount. To end the bleeding contact the attorneys and ask for a payoff amount to cover everything, see if you can cover it, and make sure they give you a satisfaction of judgment with accounting of all payments if and when you do. You will want to file the satisfaction with the court (keep a stamped copy of the filing) so that if at a later date you apply for credit you can show that it was satisfied.
