Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Illinois

I was invited to a church with my girlfriend that I was not a part of. I dated her 6 months in her church before the church told her she could not date me any longer. She listened to them which threw me into a deep depression. They told me that if I got baptized I "could" date her. I told them to forget it and it caused some psychological, depressive mood swings in my life. She told me that she would take me back "if i got baptized", so like a dummy, I did it. The church still kept us apart and I grew angry with the church. After I grew angry, she left me for good. I grew even more depressed and somewhat suicidal. I am fine now but can a church brainwash a person (like they did to my girlfriend) causing them to leave me like she did which in turn almost cost me to make a devestating rash decision to myself. Is is legal for people to do this to others (church or not)?

In my opinion you do not have a cause of action that is presently recognized in Illinois. But that is not to say that your case is without merit. I think you could find an attorney to advocate for you because of the outrageous, planned, and damaging behavior of church members. I would suggest a Rule 224 deposition of some of the leading figures as you remember them. I'm sure that will clarify who the actual defendant is in your case. So hire an attorney asap.
