Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in Illinois

Please any advice would be appreciated.

I have been having ongoing medical issues with severe chronic pain in my lower back for 7 years. I feel the VA may be altering my medical records and brushing me aside. The VA has not in my opinion has not actively pursued my ailment. In the past 3 years I have become completely incontinent. The pain is sporadic in nature and debilitating when it occurs. Recently I have found out that this is a sign of a serious problem. I will be consulting a private physician to receive a second opinion. My question is simply this. Should the private physician determine and resolve this medical issue than is the VA liable for the expense of medical products I have had to purchase and are they responsible for the jobs I have lost due to this medical condition directly or indirectly? Where do I stand legally with this issue?

As a side note I cannot afford to see another doctor and have no medical insurance for the same reason. I will be getting medical insurance for this second opinion at great expense.

Thank you.

If the care provided by the VA can be shown to have been below the "standard of care," then you may be entitled to the damages you seek. After you consult with your new physician, please consider contacting an attorney to discuss your medical history to determine if you have a meritorious case.
