Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in Illinois
Do I have a case
From the time of admission to L&D and after my c section I had tachycardia. My doctor forced me to get a CT scan and told me that I have developed PE\DVt and moved me to Heart Hospital and started me on Anticoagulation. I started bleeding due to coumadin. However this was continued for 5 days. On Day 5, I had massive heomarrage and then I was told there was no PE\DVT after doing a repeat CTA, VQ Scan etc. I developed an abdominal wound which was 5 inch x 1 inch deep and toolk 4 months to close

Re: Do I have a case
There is no way to know whether you have a cause of medical malpractice or not. In Illinois, just because a doctor makes a mistake, that does not automatically mean that malpractice has occurred. The mistake a doctor makes must be the type that if the standard of care was followed it would not have happened. The only way to find that out, is to have your medical records (and I mean the ENTIRE chart including ALL nurses notes, pre and post incident records--ALL your medical records) evaluated by an expert who will then will tell us whether or not the error by the doctor was one that has occurred as the result of having failed to follow the standard of care. Without the expert opinion, you have nothing.
So the first step is for you to get your medical records from all your doctors, hospitals, etc... ALL of it.
Once you have it all, then you can contact an attorney, make an appointment, take the records to him, tell your story.
Be careful, however, medical malpractice cases are very expensive. If there are no permanent injury, you may find it difficult to find attorneys who are willing to take on small cases. On the other hand, if you have a permanent debilitating injury then that's another ball game.
If you need more information, call my office. I will be more than happy to discuss your questions with you.
I hope this helps,
