Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in Illinois

Hi, my mom was discharged from a hospital after a 10 day stay. She had open heart surgery and they did not go over any of the discharge with me. We left the hospital around 6:30 pm. and she had not taken any medicine since 9am and they were not her new heart medicines. I brought her home and I was staying with her. She died around 7am the next morning. It was just at 12 hours from being discharged. I have come out of my shock and now I can ask questions. What should I do?

I am sorry about your loss.

You need to get your mother's medical records and take them to an attorney to have them reviewed. Without reviewing the record it would be impossible to know whether the hospital, the doctor or anyone had hand in causing your mother's death.

If you have more questions, feel free to call my office (312)252-5252. I have successfully handled this sort of cases before.

I hope this helps.

Please accept my condolences. I agree and disagree with Mr. Taradji. Your family is going through enough turmoil right now without adding the burden of obtaining medical records.

At this point, I suggest that you contact an attorney expereinced in medical malpractice cases to discuss your family's loss and to obtain all of your mother's medical records. Once the records are obtained and the attorney confirms that all of the records have been provided, ( often times a hospital does not provide everything) he or she can review them to determine whether the hospital's conduct contributed to your mother's death.

Attorneys take these cases on a no recovery no fee basis so you might as well contact one as soon as you can.
