Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in Illinois
What is the best way to receive the medical records of a relative from a hospital for review from a neutral party? We recently found out that my Mother's dialysis treatments did not include the removal of any toxic fluids for a period of several months or more. If fluid was removed, it was minimal. We found this out in a roundabout manner when the hospital changed doctors on her. She then began building up fluids around her lung causing her lung to collapse, resulting in pneumonia among other heart/lung related issues. When she developed pneumonia, doctors immediately recommended hospice and one doctor went to an extreme and put her on comfort care without the consent of the family. She passed away and the cause of death on her certificate was pneumonia. We would like to have the records reviewed by an impartial party for their opinion. Thanks.

Please accept my condolences. The easiest way is to have an estate opened if you have not had one opened already. The personal representaitve of the estate has the authority to ask to see the records and to have copies made. I hope thias helps.
