Can someone get a dishonorable discharge during the first 180 days

A friend of mine got beat up badly by

someone who was going to go to the

army the next day. She didn't press

charges, she was afraid. Can she let

him suffer through bootcamp for a

month, press charges and get him a

dishonorable discharge? I just don't

want this guy to get off the hook

since pressing charges domestically in

this country is a joke.

You certainly can file a police report and a complaint against this person. This is not a military matter, however. So, the Army would not exercise jurisdiction. Typically, these accession problems are handled by the gov't by an administrative discharge procedure, as it costs too much to try someone if there was a prosecutable crime. By the way, I don't know one jurisdiction that doesn't consider domestic violence a serious matter.
