Legal Question in Personal Injury in Illinois
Assaulted In my apartment
I had two guys try come into my apartment after I had let my gf in the door, apparently they had been there earlier and wanted to drink from our keg. It was 4 a.m. sunday morning and nobody was awake except myself. I was heavily intoxicated and in my underwear with vommit on myself, these guys pushed there way in the door and I asked them to leave, it turned into a shoving match when they didn't leave and I was tripped onto my staircase and hit in the left eye about 10 times, I received broken bones and had to get recontructive surgery. I have about 30k in medical bills. I didn't swing once on my attacker only tried to cover up, I've got a metal plate in my face and still have some double vision and trouble reading after 10 weeks from the incident. This all happened in my apartment and I had asked them to leave. I have two witnesses. What do you think will happen, I pressed charges on him but have yet to get a lawyer and sue. What should I expect to get with a lawyer?

You need to retain a lawyer right away. The amount of money you receive ultimately receive will depend on the money that's available.
You seem to have a really good case.

Re: Assaulted In my apartment
There is a criminal case--of course.
What should you expect to get by filing a civil suit? Nothing--in all likelihood unless the people who attacked you are independently wealthy with lots of free and clear assets (that is for example a house that is not mortgaged up).
And even then--you may be found to have contributed to your injuries by getting into a physical altercation instead for example of backing off and calling the police... Or other alternatives.
I hope this helps,
