Legal Question in Personal Injury in Illinois
I got contact dermatitis at my internship
I recently started an unpaid internship at a small design firm where I do alot of hands on design work. Over the course of 3 or 4 weeks I experimented with a couple different kinds of epoxy resins and I ended up getting a severe case of contact dermatitis. I developed a buring, itchy rash on my face, hands, legs,etc.. and I went to the emergency room because my face swelled up quite a bit. The doctors can't determine if the contact dermatitis is from the epoxy without an allergy test done but I don't think that my insurance through my normal part time job is going to cover allergy testing. I'm quite certain that it was the epoxy because I happened to spill some on my jeans and it eventually hardened and within a day or so I developed an isolated rash in that spot. I was never instructed to wear any gloves or mask and my mentor did not wear anything so I assumed it would be ok.
Because of the contact dermatitis I have had to call off from my normal part time job and have missed 3 days from my internship which 300 hours are needed to graduate. I have also missed out on personal experiences because of the pain associated with this illness. Since I'm an unpaid intern I wasn't sure if there was anyone who could help.

File a worker's comp claim. That's all this is. Don't get unduly hung up on your "pain and suffering" either.
