Legal Question in Personal Injury in Illinois

I was fired from my job due to a truck accident. The day of the accident I went back to the warehouse and they made me sign a promissory note for the damages on the truck totaling $1800.00. They told me that if I did not sign it they could deny unemployment. What could happen if I don't pay this note? I

don't even know how they came up with the amount of damages since they did not have time to even see the damages before they fired me. Please advise me if I am responsible for this and what could happen if I don't pay. The note says that if not paid by the due date 4% interest per year will accrue daily. Please advise me of my rights.

first of all you should not have signed it but that is the past. you probably would have gotten your unemployment anyway assuming you didnt get a another job. if you don't pay it it sounds like they may sue you to collect it and it probably has a provision for attorneys fees too. bottom line is that if you don't pay it, you may end up in a lawsuit and having to pay a lawyer to defend you and maybe still lose.
