under Illinois law, if I plead guilty to Disobey Traffic Signal Device ticket, am I left open to civil action from party in vehicle which I struck? If so, how should it be handled?]

The civil and the criminal proceedings are two different things. However, if you plead guilty, your plea is an admission and can be used against you in the civil action against you-if you were going to be sued.

You should consult with a traffic attorney and find out how your plea will affect a civil case if one was to be filed against. you.
