on 2.19.2009 my friend and i were passengers in a taxi cab. It was night time and it was snowing. my cab driver was speeding even though the weather did not permit it. He crashed into a lightpole at navy pier. There was significant damage to the pole and the taxicab. The police were called. I asked the officer for a copy of the report he told me no. He could only give out reports to injured victims. He asked me if i was injured and i said i don't know but im scared. He didn't call the ambulance so i left. Later that night, i have severe back pains, i went to the er the next day and was diagnosed with severe back spasms due to the accident. i followed up with my doctor who also prescribed me pain medications saying it might take a month for the pain to go away and to come back in 2 weeks to see if i need more medical attention. i don't know what to do. I would like to seek a lawyer and see what i can do. i copied the cab's license plate and id number.

I routinely handle this sort of cases. The fact that you do not have the police report is of no issue-we can obtain an official copy directly from the police headquarters. Also, you are entitled to recovery of all your medical bills, pain & suffering, any wage loss, loss of normal life and any out of pocket expenses.

The fact that the police officer did not think that you were injured has no effect on your rights. The bottom-line is that you were injured due to the cabbie's negligence. A lawyer will be able to obtain a copy of the police report.

In Illinois, a person who suffers an injury due to the negligent acts of another is entitled to compensation based on the following factors: past and present medical bills and future medical bills reasonably expected to occur in the future, lost wages, past, present and likely to occur in the future, temporary and permanent disability, disfigurement and pain and suffering. Additionally, if you are married, your spouse may be entitled to compensation for loss of your services around the house, socially and otherwise.
