You can recover from both under joint and several liablity law, but your recovery is going to still just be one recovery, to cover your damages.

So long as you are not receiving double recovery you can recover any actual damages you have incurred, without limitation. I wish you would provide more facts as you may have the ability to recover from multiple insurers as well as multiple tortfeasors. Where did the accident occur and what are your damages. Before you sign anything you may want an attorney to review it. You could have a claim against your own auto insurance, the taxi driver's insurance, and the person who caused the accident's insurance. Do not sell yourself short.

Kansas has a cap on non-economic damages at $250,000; there may be a damage cap in IL, but where did the accident occur as the cap will apply to the jurisdication where the accident happened?
