Legal Question in Personal Injury in Illinois

Rented room, bug bites, allergic reaction

I rented a room in apartment. I had a mattress in storage and I asked the owner of the appartment to loan me an air mattress he had until I get a van to bring my own. Soon after I moved in I started getting, bites, I thought mosquito bites. I was getting more bites and realized this is probably not mosquitos. I researched the matter online and realized this could be bed bugs. On that day I went home, took a shower and was going to take things to wash. I got an allergic reaction to the bed bug bites, throat and face started to swell, shortness of breath. I called 911 and asked for an ambulance. I was taken to the emergency room, and treated for the allergic reaction. This whole ordeal caused me a big amount of stress, I have been treated for pshychiatric issues and hospitalized twice for pshychotic behavior, in 2001, and 2003. Since then my condition has improved. At present I take anxiety medication. My question is, can I seek for any damages from the appartment owner or his home owner insurance. Do I need to get a police report about what happened? I will get a bill from the emergency room, lost two days of work, and have paid rent. Thanks in advance.

You could try a small claims case. You could also report the situation to the Dept. of Health.
