Your sister should contact a personal injury attorney immediately. There are other avenues your sister can pursue to recover for her injuries and possibly property damage.
Personal injury attorneys work on a contingency basis--that is we take a percentage of what we recover for your sister and always, the case evaluations are totally free (at least at my firm).
Hi. I am an Illinois personal injury attorney that handles many auto accident claims, and I work with clients throughout the entire state of Illinois.
I am very sorry to hear about your sister in law's accident, and I hope that she is on the path to recovery.
One of the first steps is to get a copy of the police report. Even though you said that no tickets were issued, it is really important to review the statements that the police officers include in the accident report, because sometimes they will make judgments regarding whose fault the accident was, and these police statements are very credible evidence that you need to have on your side.
However, I would highly recommend talking to an attorney as soon as possible, because there are certain things that you should never say to an insurance company, and things that you have to be aware of, that can hurt your case, if you do not know what to look out for.
We are typically able to recover compensation that is significantly in excess of the actual cost of the medical bills, and have experience in maximizing the amount of compensation. I also make an effort to explain everything in easy to understand terms, because I know people who have been in an accident can be under a lot of stress and have a lot of questions.
Unlike some firms, our office does not charge anything at all up-front to represent clients in auto-accident cases. We only receieve a portion of the overall amount that is ultimately recovered.
For convenience, I can be reached via e-mail at [email protected], or by phone during the day, or in the evening as well. Thanks.
