Legal Question in Personal Injury in Illinois

I have a very specific question about using the factor method when determining a settlement amount. Let's say I am looking for 3 times my medical bills for my personal injury settlement claim. Do I then add my personal expenses and medical bills that I would have to re-pay my insurance company (subrogation) on top of the 3x figure to come up with a total or IS the 3x figure the total (having to then re-pay the medical bills out of that amount)? Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you.

Your premise is wrong. The idea of the 3x medical bills as a settlement is a myth. Your settlement is a factor of many things, including but not limited to the nature and extend of your injuries, the nature and extent of the treatment, the type of doctors involved, any admissions you may have given (knowingly or inadvertently) in any recorded statements you may have given, the manner in which the accident happened, the extent of property damage, the jurisdiction in which a case may be filed if there is no settlement, the characteristics of the parties involved, whether you are represented by an attorney (even the insurance industries own statistics admits that regardless of the fees you have to pay an attorney, your settlement ends up being higher) and many other factors...

I hope this helps-
