Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

Abandon personal property

I had a roommate who moved out after an attempted murder. He left behind most of his personal belongings and I have not heard from him in 6 months. I have tried notifying him to retrieve his property but have gotten no response.

I do not know if he is even interested in retrieving his articles. I was wondering if I hold any liability if I throw his things out.

Re: Abandon personal property

I hope your roommate didn't try to murder you! If you have a storage shed, I would put his/her things in there, and at the end of the leaseterm, let the Landlord dispose of the items.
