Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois
Can I break my rental lease without financial responsibility for the remaining t
I signed a standard Chicago Apt Lease (no. 15C) on 12/1/2001. After moving in I found squirrels in the ceiling, mice, roaches, no hot water in the bathroom sink and most concerning daily gun fire (there is a gang war over turf in that area). I am 21 days into the new lease and have not yet moved much in and I want out, however, I do not want to be liable for the remaining 11 months left on the lease agreement that was supposed to expire 1-1-03, however the landlord made a mistake on the lease and made the expiration date of 1-1-02 in my favor. If I go to court on this will the court rule against me based on the intent of the lease??? help
signed -- I am living in a war zone

This is a constructive eviction. A proper notice should be sent to your landlord (see: the lease for the notice provisions). If you need legal counsel, call a lawyer.
