Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

damage caused to personal property in rental

I recently moved in to an apartment, long story short, there was faulty wiring in the outlet my tv, laptop, etc were plugged into, and due to the faulty wiring, they are now damaged. Is the landlord responsible for paying for the damaged equipment or just repair to the faulty wiring?

I don't know the answer to that one; I'd have to research it. In legal terms, the question is what sorts of damages are allowed in a breach of the lease situation such as this? The only way to know that is to see what similar cases have held. Unfortunately, by the time you got done paying for me to look at it, it'd probably almost pay for a new TV and laptop. Sorry. Maybe one of the other attorneys on this service knows the answer.
