Could a landlord tell you 3 days before that they are closing down the building

No. There is no such thing as a 3 day notice in Illinois - the minimum notice is 5 days for unpaid rent and 10 days for other issues. And even then, the landlord has to go to Court before you can be forced to leave. If you have not breached your lease and the building is not being sold, the landlord may not even be able to evict you at all until the lease expires.
You may have remedies against your landlord if he tries to enter your apartment, changes the locks, or otherwise interferes with your quiet enjoyment of the premises. Please feel free to give us a call.
