Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

My Dad had fallen down the back stairs in our apartment, cracking 3 ribs but did not go right to the hospital, 2 days later when the pain was so very bad he finaly went,3 weeks in the hospital and came out with Lung Cancer only having 2 to 4 months to live, He has passed away, but not before he hired a attorney, The building inspectors condemed this porch and had it rebuilt, but not before another older lady fell and cracked her head open also ended up in the hospital, Im not sure how to take care of this.My Dad had nothing at all,Does this just end here!Or do I follow this , Is there a chance of recovering anything.even now that my Dad is gone??
