Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

My family has received legal papers stating my father and uncle are being sued for abandonment on property that a nonrelative is attempting to obtain mineral rights on. Both of them are deceased and we are listed as heirs on their wills (however nothing is related to this property as they apparently had no idea about this land). What does the suing party want from us? What should we do? They apparently want an answer in the next 30 days. What happens if we don't respond? (This property is in Nebraska).

I recommend you post this again using the location for the property or go straight to making a call to an attorney in that area who knows something about mineral rights on land there.
