Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

HOA Condo Association /Management is suing me for unpaid assessments...I live in IL...How do I protect myself???...THIS IS URGENT...They are giving me 30 days (18 days left) to Pay a sum of $4886.41 which includes legal fees...I have been unemployed and experiencing a financial hardship for the past year...I was only able to find a temp job and now collecting a small unemployment check...I had tried callling the management several times with no return phone calls...I told them I would start paying my monthly assessment as of April and asked them if they would give me untill the end of the year to pay the balance in full...They would have nothing to do with it and refused my monthly check...Now their lawyers sent me a letter saying if I do not pay the amount in full in 30 days they can force entry and take possesion of my condo which I own in good standing...HOW DO I PROTECT MYSELF???...HELP !!!
