My fianc� quit claimed the house to me before he passed away. He was the only one on the mortgage. I did pay the mortgage during his illness and after his death. Am I able to claim the mortgage interest on my taxes.

You should work with a CPA or a tax preparation professional to confirm, but I believe you would have to be legally liable for the loan. I am not sure if some argument can be made that you are protecting your interest in the property. Alternatively, post your question under the area of tax law to get tax attorneys to respond.
