Inheritance

How can we take possession of my fathers home that is willed to me before his death and be free of any liability should his health decline and medical expenses eat up all cash?

Re: Inheritance

I agree that you must consult an elder law or medicaid attorney. However, you cannot be willed a house or inherit it before your dad dies. Otherwise, it's a gift. Medicaid and nursing homes have a 5 year look-back period. If you have the house in your name within 5 years of your father's death, they can still take it to pay his bills. Please consult a lawyer.
