Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

Lein on property

We did work for a developer in Chicago for $24,350. We've been paid $10,000. Work was done almost a year ago. How do we put a lein on the property in order to get paid?

Re: Lein on property

It is too late to file mechanic's liens. You would need to sue them, get a judgment against them, and then record a memorandum of judgment in the recorder's office in the county in which any real estate they own is located. If they have already sold the property on which you worked, you will not be able to lien that property.
