Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

I live in suburb of Illinois, my vehicle was repossessed in Chicago by an Indiana company on April 2, 2010. When I called the company on the 21st and I was told they did not have the car. I proceeded to call the police and file a stolen car report. I'm trying to get personal property. I called the repo again on Monday, the 26th since I didn't hear from the police. Upon calling the repo people said they had the car which was picked up on the 21st. I ask them about picking up the personal property. They're saying that I have to make an appointment and pay a fee of $49.00, which is $2.00 a day storage fee and $35.00 to clean the car out. Is this a legal action on their part?

Since they had legal custody of the car they can charge you for keeping the car and to return it.
