This happens to people who own their own homes too and they can't just walk away from them. You'd have to prove that this address was the subject of at least one if nor more prior burglaries and that the landlord knew there was a problem, failed to install any security system and fraudulent withheld that information from you when you leased it. If you discover "priors" (and one way may be through police records), at the very least you may be able to get the landlord to install a security system. But simply walk away because of one incident and the landlord not being on notice of any problems, you're asking for trouble, which should not stop you, however, from attempting to negotiate an early termination because of your feelings.
