"After title transfer" is very variable - it depends on a lot of factors. In Illinois the time is longer than a lot of other places so don't use what a friend or family member in another state says as a guidline. After the title is transferred they have to go to court and ask for eviction, then you have to be allowed time to respond, after which an eviction notice is served on you.

Normally, an evection notice will give you 30 days. Make sure that the notice is properly served - service has to be pretty exact - they can't give it to the neighbors, etc. Of course, if you know about service you have had actual notice.

I advise people to go and talk to the judge. Within limits, they are usually fairly reasonable. You are better off without an attorney because what is going on at that point is not a matter of law. It truly is pleading. If the judge can put a human face to the matter it's better for you.

If you have a new place, then just move and don't fight for time. Also, make sure that anything you want is out of the property before the eviction date. On a real world basis, even though you retain title to furniture left in the house, for example, you've basically lost it.

I have known situations where people have "slept" during the notice period and then wanted more time - that is not going to happen. You need to be pro-active.
