Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

To make a long story short: Signed a lease and moved into a new apartment building. Was given the wrong apartment. Have made attempts to contact the landlord (probably three phone calls with voicemail) about this and have yet to receive a return phone call. I am pretty certain that the lease we signed is not valid. Different address and unit #. The rent and deposit checks have been cashed.

Now that we have to get put in our State ID & License address change -- we have no lease to prove the change of address. It has been 27 days that we are living there and wonder what we should do.

The building smells awful, its dirty. We feel like it was a bait and switch move. If we would have walked into this section of the building we would have never agreed to live here.

Any legal advice given would be so appreciated!!

Part of helping people with legal questions is asking the primary question: what do you want to happen? Here, do you want to get into the right apartment - keep the one you have but correct the lease, or get out of the building. The help you seek will depend on what you want. Beyond that, it sounds like you need an attorney's help. It's worth an email.
