Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

I am marketer who finds renters for landlords and real estate agents. The real estate agent I work with informed me that it's against the law in Illinois for someone like me to show property because I don't have a real estate license. What does that have to do with rentals though? The properties I show are just for rent not for sale. Can I show apartments for rent or houses for rent in Illinois when I am not a real estate agent? It doesn't make sense that you would have to have a license to rent an apartment. Am I missing something?
