Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois
I met a man and he ask me to move in with him and share living arrangements without a contract. he had no income and we lived off of my income and pell grants , along with my car for transportation. He said he would be getting money in January or February but procrastinated about filling out paper work along with filling out paper work on keep the house from being foreclosed on. The house will be going back to the bank and he said I could stay here until I graduated from school or till bank took house for taking care of him when he didn't have an income. He now gets unemployment and I get SS. My income is a little over a 1000 dollars and we talked about staying roommates until the bank closes or i graduate and get a job. He had also said he wanted to move from here but I ask him to stay and keep the arrangements the same because of the economy. He told me ok and made plans to fix the things that are not fixed in here along with my sons help. I left for two weeks and no mention from him he was moving, he left while i was gone and moved some of his stuff and all of his daughters. He came home on July 14 and informed me that he was moving to indiana, No warning but had given me a typed letter in may that said he was going to move in June and I could stay here since I was her. Now he is evicting me and I don't have any money to move I used my pell grants on living here and taking care of things from October until Feb. In Feb he caught up on the bills I couldn't pay from DEc. and kept the utilities paid, i pay cable, internet, food and other necessities. I had a car payment but not now have no car. We had food stamps in Dec that helped but I still had to pay for food with stamps were gone. If he bought food he kept it in his room for him. Is there anything i can do to stay or what do I do at court Friday the 12th of August
1 Answer from Attorneys
Can't tell what you're options are from this. Can't tell if he was foreclosed out and the buyer wants to move in. You need to take the paperwork to an attorney to review. As to the "contract" you had with him, an attorney can help determine if you have any remedy against this person or whether it effectively ended when he moved and the house was foreclosed upon.
